Manchester City Football Club is an English football club based in Manchester. St. Mark’s (West Gorton) was founded in 1880, and the club changed its name to Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 and Manchester City in 1894. After playing at Maine Road since 1923, the club relocated to the City of Manchester Stadium in 2003.

Under the management of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison, the club had its most prosperous era in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when they won the League Championship, FA Cup, League Cup, and European Cup Winners’ Cup.
The club went through a period of decline after losing the 1981 FA Cup Final, resulting in relegation to the third tier of English football for the first time in their history in 1998. After regaining Premier League status in the early 2000s, the club was acquired by Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008 and has since become one of the world’s wealthiest.

The club has won five major awards since 2011, including the Premier League in 2012 and 2014.
